The Backcountry Runner
-back country- a sparsely populated rural region remote from a settled area.
-runner- a person, animal, or thing that runs, especially as a racer.
What is Backcountry Running to you?
It might be ducking out the door after work to hit the trails on the Port Hills above Christchurch, or maybe it is getting deep into the backcountry of the Waitakere Ranges to tackle the Hillary Trail, just outside our biggest city Auckland. Lining up with 450+ other like minded folks on the first Saturday of December for our most iconic of mountain running races- the Kepler Challenge? Possibly you like to take your back country running experience even further, tackling multi day tramps in just hours, rather than days……..
A Backcountry Running Community- We want this to be the place you come for race previews and reports, interviews with New Zealand runners, gear reviews, online forum (we hope to get this up and running!)- the opportunity for you to be part of the New Zealand trail running community- no matter what part of the country you are in.
In the future we will look into organised group runs and might event team up for a Backcountry running camp.
Have a look at our first post for more- “Welcome“

I have just completed a 24 hour run/walk to raise funds for my wife who died last year and I did 95km and would have done more but my knee gave out after about 8 hours. I would like to more of this running so where can I see what events are coming up and do you have any small events I could do first and work my way up to bigger stuff.
Thanks
